Treading Water - Spirit Walk II, 2014
Nature’s Calling Environmental Education and Shadowland Theatre partnered to bring a stunning theatrical adventure to Norfolk County in September 2014. Created in a series of workshops with local artists and community members, Treading Water focused on the relationship between humans, nature and water.
A teen-girl finds a magical crayfish far from home. She sets out to return it to its pond only to find the area is to be turned into a theme park. Her journey gives her a new understanding of water and its value to all life. The audience walked along the St Williams Conservation trail encountering animal and bird characters along the way each with a story to tell. It ended with a stunning lantern lit finale at sunset.

Spirit Walk I, 2013
Months of workshops and visits to Norfolk County culminated in a moving and highly-acclaimed run of performances at the end of September. In collaboration with Nature’s Calling Environmental Education, community members and local artists joined us to create a theatrically animated walk in the woods. Audiences came to walk the beautiful St Williams Forestry trail and see the story unfold. Characters emerged from the woods to guide a puppet version of a young girl to a new understanding of nature. The evening ended with a stunning lantern finale. The Norfolk Arts Centre is currently hosting an exhibition of the show. All are welcome to the closing reception and talk – Reconnecting to Nature and the Arts by Shadowland and NCEE, on January 24 at 7pm. www.norfolkartscentre.ca
